* denotes deceased Criteria: The Bernard Lown Alumni Humanitarian Award was established by the University of Maine Alumni Association to recognize and honor graduates who distinguish themselves in humanitarian service. This award will be bestowed from time to time, on those individuals who dedicate their talents and energies to the affirmation of life, the creation of a benevolent, peaceful society and the perpetuation of a caring, nurturing civilization. It is named in honor of Dr. Bernard Lown, M.D. '42, Nobel Peace Prize recipient and co-president of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War. |
